Q: Introduction of yourself.
Hi, my name is Najib. I am an airline pilot in profession. I have been flying for 20 years. Presently I’m working with one of the airline based in Abu Dhabi. As a pilot, I have the privilege to fly all over the world, been to many places, restaurants and café which give me inspiration to have my own café.

Q: Why do you start up café instead of other business?
First of all, I love to drink coffee, as you know, pilot needs to drink coffee to stay awake. It has always been my dream to own a café.

Q: What is the reason behind the name ‘Huello’?
I started this café with four other partners and we took over from the previous café owner. I’m the one who came out with the name ‘Huello’. It sounds like ‘Hello’ which is a very friendly and warm expression. It sounds like Spanish as well. In Mexican dialect, it means smell. We all go along with the name ‘Huello’ which brings the meaning of smell of café, smell of coffee and smell of food.

Q: What is the unique part of this café?
The specialty of ‘Huello’ is that we serve both Asian and Western dishes. For instance, when you go to Starbucks, you could only get Western food. In our café, you can have Western food plus local food, e.g. nasi lemak, Singapore bihun. We are still new and in the stage of testing the food.

Q: How long has this café been running?
It’s been about a year.

Q: I’ve noticed there is a T-shirt that is framed on the wall. What is so special about it?
It was signed by four famous football players. They have a tour to visit my company HQ in Abu Dhabi. I’m the first one in line to get their autographs. Besides, the decoration here is vintage style to create a relaxing and warm atmosphere.

Q: Philosophy of this café?
First of all, cleanliness is no.1. We have been graded as Category A in cleanliness. Our food must be clean, hygienic, tasty and good for health.

Q: What is your best dish?
It would be Chicken Peri-peri. It is chicken made with special secret sauce. There are customers who will come every week, order the same food, which is chicken peri-peri and sit at the same place.

Another famous sell out is seafood that is served with variety of sauces, such as sweet and sour, super hot chili pepper and forth. That’s a combination of Western and Asian. Another one would be teriyaki short ribs, they are very tender and juicy.

Lunch promotion starts from 11-4pm. There are a number of main dishes and drinks you can choose from such as nasi goreng kampung, mee goreng, mee rebus at only RM9.80.

Q: Do you plan to grow the business?
The ultimate goal is to grow internationally. Simply say, to be like Starbucks. Where Starbucks is situated, we are going to be next to it. But for now, we are focusing domestically. This is the only outlet for now, but when it is the right time, we will open up more branches. Once we have the right system and formula, we might go for franchising as well.

Q: What is your take on food branding?
Food branding is very important when running any businesses because with the right brand name we can go a long way. For example, when Ray Kroc took over McDonald’s brothers, he had the option of changing the name, but he didn’t. He chose to remain McDonald’s because it sounds warm and welcoming.

Q: What is the most enjoyable moment when running this business?
When I see customers, be it friends or family sitting together, enjoying themselves and laughing, I feel fulfilled because I’m part of it that makes it happen.
